Electrochemical Immunosensors for Quantification of Procalcitonin: Progress and Prospects

چکیده
Human procalcitonin (PCT) is a peptide precursor of the calcium-regulating hormone calcitonin. Traditionally, PCT has been used as biomarker for severe bacterial infections and sepsis. It also recently identified potential marker COVID-19. Normally, serum intracellularly cleaved to calcitonin, which lowers levels (<0.01 ng/mL). In infectious diseases sepsis, increase above 100 ng/mL in response pro-inflammatory stimulation. Development sensors specific quantification resulted considerable improvement sensitivity, linear range rapid response. Among various sensing strategies, electrochemical platforms have extensively investigated owing their cost-effectiveness, ease fabrication portability. Sandwich-type immunoassays based on antigen–antibody interactions with an transducer use nanointerfaces augmented towards PCT. Identification superior combination electrode material nanointerface, translation platform into flexible disposable substrates are under active investigation development point-of-care device detection. This review provides overview existing detection strategies limitations immunosensors, emerging directions address these lacunae.

Electrochemical Immunosensors and Aptasensors
Since the first electrochemical biosensor for glucose detection, pioneered in 1962 by Clark and Lyons [1], research and application in the field has grown at an impressive rate and we are still witnessing a continuing evolution of research on this topic [2]. According to the definition recommended by IUPAC some years later [3], a biosensor is a self-contained device that is capable of providing...
متن کاملElectrochemical and chemiluminescent immunosensors for tumor markers.
The determination of serum tumor markers plays an important role in clinical diagnoses for the patients with certain tumor-associated disease. Although many commercial kits have been applied in clinical immunoassays, conventional methods always have some disadvantages, resulting in the need of other new, efficient, and easily automated methods. Immunosensors, considered as a major development i...
متن کاملMultiplexed Electrochemical Immunosensors for Clinical Biomarkers
Management and prognosis of disease requires the accurate determination of specific biomarkers indicative of normal or disease-related biological processes or responses to therapy. Moreover since multiple determinations of biomarkers have demonstrated to provide more accurate information than individual determinations to assist the clinician in prognosis and diagnosis, the detection of several ...
متن کاملElectrochemical Immunosensors for Celiac Disease Detection
Unfortunately, a high percentage of people with celiac disease (CD) is not yet diagnosed. The disease could begin at any age and the different produced symptoms may complicate the diagnosis, delay the treatment and worsening the living conditions of the patient. Therefore, early diagnosis of the disease when patients have few or not symptoms is really important and can help to improve the patie...

For this special issue on 90 years of polarography, the following personal account describes how my early research in electrochemistry and polarography in the laboratory of Prof. Petr Zuman led to a major research effort in the determination of proteins for cancer detection and monitoring. It reviews the very recent history of nanoparticle labels and multiplexed detection in protein immunosenso...
